Mas dels Frares
Type of wine: Red Wine aged in oak barrels
Grape varieties: Garnatxa negra, Carinyena, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Vines of Grenache and Carignan from 40 years old terraces; Merlot and Cabernet from 30 years old terraces. All of them collected in parcels from Gratallops, El Lloar, La Vilella Baixa and La Vilella Alta.
Elaboration: Handpicked grapes, fermentation in stainless steel tanks, and elaborated from a blend with a part of aged wine in French oak barrels for one year.
“Deep ruby appearance. The nose shows richness despite still being fairly closed. Ripe fruits like blueberries and red plums against a background of cedar and tobacco-leaf notes from the oak. Well-structured with lively acidity, grippy high quality tannins, salinity and smoothing alcohol, ending in a long finish in which oak and fruit continue in excellent balance. Drink now, but will also keep very well for another 2-4 years.”
